Practical, beautiful Miryeok Onggi

Traditional earthenware is simple and has a gentle and long-lasting beauty. Miryeok Onggi has a 300-year history (for 9 generations) and has been introduced widely through a variety of media as a “breathing” Onggi.

Breathing Boseong Onggi is not common but rather uniquely beautiful.
Natural lye is used to express a friendly, gentle color. It is baked at a high temperature of 1200 and has a clear tone like steel.
Boseong Onggi is earthenware that is not rough but beautiful. In addition, it is practical and decorative as tableware.

Boseong earthenware is different in size as they are hand-made.
With a low density, earthenware holds its form well. Colors vary as natural lye is used in the dye process. All of these are the charms of earthenware goods.

Characteristics

Onggi masters make earthenware, storage for food and other items, for every home’s garden or backyard in Korea. Earthenware has long been loved, and rightly so, by Koreans with a long history and tradition. It is the only daily storage item not yet influenced by foreign cultures. Along with porcelain, traditional earthenware has long been loved by all. Earthenware, in particular, is covered with lye. Boseong Onggi Workshop is composed of a kiln, a cellar, drying yard, and lye facility and uses the method of Chaebakwitarae. With 7- 8 generationsof history, the workshop was once located in Byeongyoung, Gangjin and moved from Nodong, Boseong to the current location in March, 1950.
